The Challenge:
Leadership conferences require more than a well-organized schedule.
Attendees need opportunities to connect, collaborate, and engage outside of traditional presentations and meetings. For a leadership-focused event, activities also need to support the broader goals of the conference while providing participants with an opportunity to work together in a different environment. The theme was “Game Night” using gamification to assist with bringing together all the members and increasing engagement between all their teams & divisions.
Northrop Grumman’s annual HR Leadership Conference called for an experience that combined professional development + Gamification that allowed for connection with engaging activities that encouraged teamwork and participation.
The Solution: Event Planning With Purpose using Gamification
NextGen Event Co. provided event planning support for the conference while developing and coordinating leadership activities and team-building experiences. Playing into the theme of using gamification, our creative event planning & production team planned & executed on delivering casino games, team building exercises and photo activation that added to the event’s theme.
Our approach was designed to make the activities feel like a natural extension of the conference rather than simply an entertainment break.
The experience incorporated:
- Event planning and coordination
- Leadership-focused activities
- Team-building experiences using Game Night activities
- Interactive group participation
- Collaboration and communication
- Onsite event support
By combining planning with experiential programming, NextGen helped create an event environment where attendees could connect and participate beyond the conference room.
Leadership Activities Designed to Engage
Leadership events provide an opportunity to reinforce the skills and behaviors that organizations want their teams to practice.
The activities provided attendees with opportunities to:
- Communicate with colleagues
- Collaborate toward shared objectives
- Practice problem-solving
- Build relationships outside their normal work groups
- Work together in a more informal setting
- Apply leadership and teamwork skills in an interactive environment
The goal wasn’t simply to keep attendees entertained. The activities were designed to create meaningful interaction and complement the leadership focus of the conference.
Building Stronger Teams Through Experience
Team building is often most effective when participants have an opportunity to work together toward a common goal.
NextGen’s team-building activities encouraged attendees to communicate, collaborate, and participate together in an environment outside the traditional workplace.
These experiences created opportunities for colleagues to interact in new ways while strengthening the connections that are important to effective teams.
From Planning to Participation
A successful corporate conference requires attention to the experience before, during, and after the event.
NextGen’s role extended beyond simply providing activities. Event planning and onsite coordination helped ensure that the experiences were integrated into the overall conference and delivered smoothly for attendees.
Planning
We worked around the conference schedule, audience, venue, and overall event objectives.
Experience Design
Activities were selected and structured around leadership, collaboration, and team engagement.
Coordination
NextGen coordinated the experience and helped manage the logistics necessary to keep participation organized and engaging.
Onsite Execution
Our team supported the activities onsite, allowing the client and conference attendees to focus on the experience.
The Attendee Experience
The activities gave HR leaders an opportunity to step away from the traditional conference format and engage with colleagues in a more interactive setting.
Participants worked together, communicated, solved problems, and experienced the value of collaboration in a setting that encouraged participation.
These types of experiences can create memorable moments during a conference while reinforcing the relationships and connections that continue after the event ends.
The Result
By combining event planning, leadership activities, and team building, NextGen helped create a conference experience that extended beyond presentations and meetings.
The interactive programming gave attendees opportunities to collaborate, connect, and engage with colleagues while supporting the broader leadership focus of the event.
The result was an experience designed not only around what attendees heard during the conference, but also around what they experienced together.
Why Event Planning and Team Building Work Together
Corporate conferences increasingly need to balance content with meaningful attendee experiences.
Thoughtfully planned activities can help:
- Break up a full conference schedule
- Encourage networking and relationship building
- Strengthen communication
- Create opportunities for collaboration
- Reinforce leadership concepts
- Increase attendee engagement
- Give participants memorable shared experiences
When these experiences are integrated into the event planning process from the beginning, they can become an intentional part of the conference rather than an afterthought.
